About the Event

The natural charm of Penang lies in its verdant hills and beautiful beaches. Almost 50% of the island is hilly while mainland Penang is dotted with several summits. Why do we need to protect our hills? What are threats that they are facing? And is there a role that we can play to protect our hills?

Join Rexy Prakash Chacko from Penang Hills Watch (PHW) and learn about the precious hills of Penang and why we need to keep them green.

Rexy Prakash Chacko is the Co-founder of Penang Hills Watch, an initiative started in 2016 to raise public awareness about protecting hill land in Penang while engaging with government authorities to take action on non-compliant acts of hill clearing. Rexy loves hiking and spends most of his weekends exploring Penang’s hills. He has authored (and co-authored) two books on hiking in Penang and has been actively involved in Penang Green Agenda as a Working Group Member and Advisory Committee as well as a Coordinating Committee Member in the Penang River Awareness Project in the years 2018 and 2019.
